Maker Motes at the international conference of the World Association of Lesson Studies (WALS) 2017

my good friend and research partner - Dr Ari Widodo from the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia - and i have had our proposal for a conference presentation titled Using Lesson Study to introduce STEM education accepted at this year’s international conference of the World Association of Lesson Studies (WALS).

the conference will be held in Nagoya, Japan, from the 24th to the 26th of November :-)

Maker Motes: collaboration with colleagues for a pre-service teacher education course

from tomorrow, over the next four weeks, our team’s expertise in designing curriculum approaches leveraging open-source environmental sensors will form the background of a pre-service course at the National Institute of Education (NIE).

over the past twelve months, we have been working closely with colleagues from the Office of Teacher Education, the Academic Computing and Information Services division, and the Natural Sciences and Science Education Academic Group, in sharing and learning from each other.

as i shared earlier in May, the collaboration has already resulted in a learning space at the NIE which student-teachers can take advantage of.

tomorrow marks another milestone in this collaboration, as student-teachers taking QCS50H Informal science learning environments for primary science will have their introductory lecture.

we look forward to continuing our collaboration with our friends and colleagues :-)

Disciplinary Intuitions: the book has been indexed by Scopus

i received the news today that the 2015 publication Disciplinary Intuitions and the design of learning environments has been indexed by the bibliographic database Scopus.

i thank God for this surprise through His grace.

Disciplinary Intuitions / Maker Motes at the Seminar on Computational Thinking Education, The Education University of Hong Kong

my team and i have been invited to facilitate a series of workshops at the Seminar on Computational Thinking Education, to be held at the Education University of Hong Kong on the 20th of October.

we are very grateful to our hosts at CoolThink@JC, which is a programme funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, for this opportunity.

i have been invited to speak that day on STEM education, and the workshops will be for about a hundred teachers. The seminar aims to share the latest trends and developments in computational thinking education, to discuss different approaches and strategies for promoting the importance of computational thinking development, and to build local teachers’ capacity in the impartation of computational thinking skills.

Disciplinary Intuitions / Maker Motes: workshop at the international conference of the Southeast Asian Geography Association (SEAGA) 2017

my team and i have just received the news that we will be able to facilitate a workshop on our curriculum model which makes use of open-source environmental sensors (Maker Motes) at this year’s international conference of the Southeast Asian Geography Association (SEAGA).

this year, the conference theme is Geography for global understanding: sustainable changes in environment, society and people.

the conference will be hosted on the Depok campus of the Universitas Indonesia, from the 28th of November till the 1st of December.
