when i was reading the Geography Tripos for my undergraduate studies in the 1980s, one of my favourite electives was titled the Geography of South Asia.
i enjoyed the course so much, i took it for both my second year and for my final year.
as part of the course, i read Mark Tully’s and Satish Jacob’s gripping Amritsar: Mrs Gandhi’s last battle, which i bought in January 1988.
little could i have imagined then that twenty-nine years later, i would be able to visit the fabled city for myself, all thanks be to God.
yes, i’ll be making my very first visit to India next month, to participate in the inauguration of the Atal Tinkering Lab at the Delhi Public School (DPS), Amritsar.
my team and i would like to express our very deep gratitude to the board, staff, and students of the DPS Amritsar for so generously extending their invitation and trust to us, as we begin a collaboration of mutual learning and curriculum design.
the DPS Amritsar is one of about 250 schools across India awarded federal funding on a (very) competitive basis to nurture and foster so-called 21st century dispositions and a culture of making, through the set up of what are known as Tinkering Labs. since the beginning of this year, my team has been extremely privileged to have engaged in regular and frequent conversation with the school with respect to their Tinkering Lab.
we are very much looking forward to meeting with and deepening our relationships with the leadership, staff and students of the school during our visit :-)
