Disciplinary Intuitions / Six Learnings featured in the Knowledge Resource Bank of the Office of Education Research

the annual Redesigning Pedagogy conference is on this week, at the National Institute of Education in Singapore.

my colleagues from the Office of Education Research (OER) have been using the opportunity to give teachers a sneak preview of a proof-of-concept that they have been hard at work on, namely a Knowledge Resource Bank that they have been compiling.

my team and i are humbled that Disciplinary Intuitions and the Six Learnings have been chosen as one of seven inaugural projects in the Resource Bank.

in addition, Disciplinary Intuitions and the Six Learnings will be featured in the inaugural edition of the NIE News e-newsletter, published by the Public, International and Alumni Relations (PIAR) office.

we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the Knowledge Management team at the OER and to the PIAR team.

Maker Motes: collaboration with NIE Office of Teacher Education special project on Internet of Things

if you’re a teacher (or student-teacher) within Singapore interested in STEM education, my team would like to share that - through a collaboration with the Office of Teacher Education at the National Institute of Education (NIE) - our Maker Motes will be used as part of the Office’s special project on the Internet of Things.

over the next few months, we will be working closely with colleagues from the Centre for Innovation in Learning and the Division of Academic Computing and Information Services to have data accessible at the IoT@NIE Learning Lab at Block 2 of the NIE.

Apple Orchard Road opens

it’s been about eleven-and-a-half-years’ since i blogged about Apple’s retail presence in Singapore.

this morning, Apple Orchard Road opened and it is Apple’s first official retail / ‘town-hall’ presence not only in Singapore but in the southeast Asian region.

it is also one of the first worldwide to feature Apple’s new design aesthetic featuring trees, wood, and leather.

Learning Mathematics with portable, programmable robots

through God’s grace alone,

my team and i received the news today that we have been awarded a grant from the National Institute of Education.

this will be a collaboration with A/P Domenico Campolo, who is the Director of the Robotics Research Centre at the School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University.

titled Learning Mathematics with portable, programmable robots, the grant is worth just over US$72000.

thank you, Prof Lee

i have just received news that Professor Lee Sing Kong passed away today.

Prof Lee was a former Director of the National Institute of Education, from 2006 to 2014.

although he was Director, i did not know him very well, and it was only at a conference in Penang later in 2014 that i managed to talk to him for more than a few words as small talk.

i am glad i did, because i feel i got to know him (at least a little bit) as a person, and not as the head of my workplace.

i can’t say i kept in regular contact with him since 2014, but i do have the last email he sent me.
