my talk on maker culture at the inaugural OER Educating for Innovation symposium

Here’s a video on my talk at the inaugural Educating for Innovation symposium, organised by the Office of Education Research (OER), National Institute of Education.

The title of my talk was Makers on Parade: the spontaneous emergence of a makerspace in a state-funded school in Singapore.

Maker Motes curriculum unit in core text for pre-service teacher-trainees at the National Institute of Education

My research team has authored a full curriculum unit around the use of open-source sensors which we have termed Maker Motes.

We are sharing this curriculum unit as a chapter in a forthcoming college-level core text to be published by Pearson in time for the August 2016 semester, here at the National Institute of Education, Singapore.

Learning science authentically through investigating the local environment will be a chapter in Technology-enhanced 21st century learning, edited by Chai, Koh, and Teo. the book will be used by pre-service teacher-trainees in the courses AED 107, QED 507, and QED 527.

Do also remember to look out for our very own edited volume on maker culture - Landscapes of participatory making, modding and hacking: Maker Culture and Makerspaces - later this year (or early next :-) )!

Disciplinary Intuitions / Maker Motes: keynote at the International Conference on Mathematics and Science Education (ICMSE) 2016

here's the keynote on 'Citizen Science with low-cost environmental sensors' which i shared during the International Conference on Mathematics and Science Education (ICMSE) 2016, in Bandung, Indonesia.

sharing the stage with me was Dr Sazali b Yusoff, who is the Director of the Institute of Teacher Education / Institut Pendidikan Guru, Malaysia. The session was very capably moderated by Dr Diana Rochintaniawati, of the Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia.
