having been duly inspired by triathlete Ray Maker’s tests of the Apple Watch last month, i took my own 38 mm Stainless Steel model on its maiden swim at the pool at the Sports & Recreation Complex of the Nanyang Technological University, here in Singapore, today.
normally, i would swim 4200 metres, but today i swum for 3200 metres (about two miles) because the pool had been booked.
i swum front crawl non-stop, in comfortably warm fresh water, from 1125 hrs till 1230 hrs.
the Watch functioned perfectly, both during the swim, as well as immediately after.
it recorded my estimated calorie burn in the Activity app, and was responsive to screen touches (from the lifeguard) immediately upon my emerging from the pool. it also re-established pairing with the iPhone without any intervention or issues.
i believe that if you are a swimmer, you can swim with confidence with your Watch :-)
