brave new world

Second Life Viewer 2.0 is out in public beta :-)

more than a simple reskin - it is a significant orientation in the trajectory of Linden Lab and its vision for Second Life.

i've put much thought into what Second Life Viewer 2.0 represents in terms of present understandings of New Media and learning, and i'd like to sum it up this way:

Viewer 2.0 is an exemplary interpretation of the framework suggested by Mimi Ito and her team at the Digital Youth Project, and will be remembered as a watershed in broader social interaction in fictive worlds and virtual environments away from the domain of 'geeking out', towards those of simply 'hanging out' and 'messing around'.
