it was a dark and stormy night.
*grinz* :-P
seriously, last night saw an event that one does not get the privilege of witnessing every day.
a tremendous fissure opened up in Sky Island West, and in a seemingly cataclysmic son et lumiere show, a new volcano was born.
come hear the story of its birth, as a 1.9 MB download in the one-hundred-and-nineteenth episode of ventriloquy.
the volcano is right next to the Marine Environments Centre at Sky Island Bay, and to reflect the new learning opportunities afforded by it, i've re-christened the Centre as the Raymaker Field Studies Centre at Sky Island Bay.
if you do decide to visit, please do not attempt to climb its slopes. they are unstable. please instead use the specially constructed viewing platform which i've commissioned just for this purpose. it will take you right up to the crater, which is 21 metres above sea-level and offers some really breathtaking vistas.
deciding on a name for the volcano was the easy part. in homage to Hergé's Flight 714, the volcano is called Pulau-Pulau Bompa.

[breaking the fictional conceit of this post, the volcano is designed, scripted and built by the super-talented Ludvaig Lindman :-) ]

[update: as of 2008, Pulau-Pulau Bompa is now at the Raymaker Vulcanigallery at Da Boom]
