in what is turning out to be a marathon day for me, i am posting my third entry today.
... and there's still one more hour left till midnight :-P
i enjoyed myself so much riding on the Penguin Ferry from the SS Galaxy to Sagittaria (crossing five sim boundaries, no less :-) ) that i decided to make the return trip.
... and another one...
... and another one (this time in the very pleasant company of Cruise Director Jill Mackenzie) :-)
and i must say, it is a truly unique way to take in the sheer size of the Galaxy, and the exquisite detail of her fittings.
the trip takes about five minutes, and there's more than one ferry in use. so you really don't have to wait very long for this non-stop service. i would strongly encourage you to try it. especially on a moonlit night :-) (and there's stuff to do at Sagittaria too, such as taking a ride on the multi-sim-spanning monorail system, and admiring the period-aircraft at the nearby airfield)
i could not think of a more appropriate way to cap a nautically-themed 24 hours, than to get myself a proper furnished yacht, with which to enjoy life on the water at Hatteras Island.
i've actually been thinking about a yacht for some time, and i had narrowed the choice down to the 9-seater class, because anything smaller and there would not be an enclosed cabin, and anything bigger would not be able to actually move.
two candidates presented themselves, Brookston Holiday's HMY 21 Luxury Cruiser, and Verkin Raven's Seawolf SWC Cabin Cruiser.
i love the detailing of the Seawolf, but was disappointed to discover that its cabin has only a height clearance of 1.68 metres - and Veritas Raymaker happens to be 1.80 metres tall :-P
i could sit inside the Seawolf, it's just that i could not walk around. I could, however, walk around the HMY 21, but found to my chagrin that (as intimated in the linked web review) its construction isn't terribly user friendly, and - in fact - the scripts get broken too easily, even within the same sim. i could only get it to work once.
so, in the end, i followed my heart and decided that Raymaker 4 should be a Seawolf SWC. it has loads more features than the HMY 21, including working navigation lights, interior lights, and a headlight (all independently functioning), a better security system, a customisable flag, more realistic sounds, and a locator beacon.
of course, the real reason is that it's by far the most sexy ocean-going vessel in Second Life :-P
