Raymaker Land Management - the Treehouse at Seefeld

it's been really a busy day for me - this is my third post :-)

i would just like to thank Tobias Novi for his help in setting up his terrifically crafted Treehouse.

i've kept my eye on a few treehouses by various builders over the past several months, but i could never find one which was truly compelling - till now.

i welcome you to visit it at Seefeld and consider starting a rental :-)

[update: as of 23 February, i have dismantled the Treehouse. i would like to take the opportunity to thank all its former tenants :-) ]

the Marina at Da Boom

the one-hundred-and-fifty-third episode of ventriloquy explores the connections between England's Lake District during the 1930s, and some of the most historic sims in present-day Second Life.

capping off a busy weekend, and just in time to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Second Life coming out of beta, i open the Marina at Da Boom to you :-) the Marina is built on a land parcel for which i have just taken over stewardship from Rockwell Ginsberg.

in this 3.3 MB download, i invite you to take the slow boat and explore the waters around the oldest regions on the grid - these were the first to come online.

if you do have the time, please also do consider visiting the newly-expanded and renovated Raymaker Learning Space at Eduisland 3; if you still can't get enough of the salt-sea-air in your lungs, i am very pleased to make available two Docksider homes by Blaccard Burks for your rental consideration. They lie at the edge of a Linden continent and therefore offer unspoilt sunrise views.

explore these historic waters at a leisurely pace from the Marina at Da Boom

thanks to the kind auspices of Linden Lab and The Idea Factory (Singapore) Pte Ltd, i spent a very pleasant afternoon with about sixteen members of the South 1 School Cluster in Singapore, and officers from the Schools Division of the Ministry of Education :-)

EcoRangers® - results of the Examination Report

it may have taken two-and-a-half-years, but - by the grace of God - we received the Examination Report for EcoRangers® today :-)

the Examiner has stated that all Claims have met the requirement for Novelty, Inventive Step, and Industrial Applicability.

a geographical conundrum in Second Life

the one hundred and fifty-second episode of ventriloquy introduces my initial musings on a conceptual puzzle that i have been thinking about regarding the geography of Second Life.

it's a conundrum which i've been playing with at the back of my mind for some time, but one which i never really accorded much importance to, till recently.

the catalyst for this shift in priority has been the collection, measurement and analysis of data from the system developed by Windy Schor, which i've blogged about on earlier occasions.

Windy and i each have booths at SL5B Linked - i try to give you clear directions on how to visit in this 4.1 MB download.

SL5B is the name given to the series of events over the next fortnight which commemorate five years of Second Life coming out of beta. my booth at SL5B Linked differs from my land parcel at SL5B Prim, in that while the latter is meant to give visitors a preview of the Singapore-themed island of Temasek, the former permits visitors to learn more about some of the work i have been doing in-world in Literature, Geography, and the Earth Sciences.

Temasek at dusk

even if i do say so myself, Temasek is one of the most photogenic sims i have visited.

this quality is all the more intriguing, because although the broad land-use zonation of Temasek was decided by its team of architects before terraforming and building, a great many of its medium- to small-scale builds and details reflect the respective tastes of the individual architects, who number six in total (excluding myself).

so, much of Temasek's beauty has emerged serendipitously, and reflects the glories of God's Creation, even in a Multi-User Virtual Environment :-)

wind rose data from the first 24 hours

following on from yesterday's post, here's the data from the first 24 hours from the four anemometers at the Raymaker Field Studies Centre at Norma.

just to give you an orientation, i have arranged the four wind roses to approximately correspond with the respective locations (when viewed against a Cartesian north-south-east-west grid) of the anemometers at the Field Studies Centre.

that is to say, the two wind roses in the top row are nearest the crater of the Dante volcano, on its southern / southwestern flank. the wind rose at the top right shows data from an anemometer which is thirty metres higher than its counterpart (as can be seen from the x, y, and z coordinates).

the wind rose at the bottom left shows data from the anemometer which is closest of the four to sea level.

from the data, one tentative conclusion that might be drawn might be that the presence of the crater would indeed appear to have a blocking effect on wind, and that this blocking effect decreases with altitude.
